Roger Clemens Comeback: Pitcher Will Make Second Independent League Sept. 7, According To Report

Pitcher Roger Clemens will make his second start for the Sugar Land Skeeters on Sept. 7 against the Long Island Ducks, according to his agent. This was reported by Houston television station KRIV and the Houston Chronicle.

In his first start for the Skeeters last Saturday night against the Bridgeport Bluefish, Clemens pitched three and one-third shut out innings and struck out two batters. While some believe this is the first step to pitching in the majors again, the 50-year-old has downplayed that possibility so far.

If Clemens does pitch again, it will delay his eligibility to the Baseball Hall of Fame for another five years. He is scheduled to be on the ballot for the first time this fall.

Roger Clemens Comeback: 50-Year-Old Pitcher Impresses In Debut

Roger Clemens was as impressive as a 50-year-old Atlantic League rookie pitcher tossing on five years of rest could be on Saturday night in his debut for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Clemens said he thought the outing went great.

He pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and struck out two in his first game since the 2007 ALDS with the New York Yankees. Clemens threw 37 pitches, 24 for strikes, against the Bridgeport Bluefish at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

Curt Schilling, Clemens' former teammate with the Boston Red Sox, was on the broadcast team for Saturday night's game and said it didn't look like Clemens missed a beat.

What's next could be a return to Major League Baseball, most likely with the league's worst team, the Houston Astros.
