For the first time in over two weeks, youngster Jeremy Hefner will take the mound Sunday for the New York Mets, as the team is set to conclude a three-game series at the Washington Nationals (1:35 p.m. ET on WPIX). Hefner (2-4) will oppose the Nats' Gio Gonzalez (15-6) and will try and help the Mets earn a series victory after the two NL East foes split the first two games.
Hefner's start is a part of a new six-man pitching rotation the Mets are implementing.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez is looking to become the first Nationals pitcher to reach the 16-win mark since the franchise moved from Montreal to the nation's capital.
