Yankees-Red Sox Final Score: Kuroda Pitches Gem As Yankees Win, 4-1

Hiroki Kuroda continued his strong pitching on Sunday as the New York Yankees as he pitched eight one-run innings in 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox offense could hardly muster anything off of Kuroda who has only given up eight runs in his last seven starts. Kuroda surrendered only four hits, including a home run by Adrian Gonzalez. He also had four strikeouts and no walks.

Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-4 and hit two home runs, his second and third as a Yankee. Ichiro has only seven multi-homer games in his career. The crowd at Yankee Stadium gave Ichiro a curtain call after his second home run and he acknowledged with a simple tip of the batting helmet.

Derek Jeter went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. He now has 3,247 hits, one shy of Nap Lajoie for 12th all time. He is also sitting at 1,840 runs, one shy of Craig Biggio for 13th all time.

The win kept the Yankees ahead of the Tampa Rays and Baltimore Orioles by 4.5 and 5.5 games (respectively) as both teams won their Sunday match-ups.

Rafael Soriano pitched a scoreless ninth for his 31st save.

The Yankees fly to Chicago to take on the White Sox in a three-game series Monday.

New York Yankees Vs. Boston Red Sox Final Score: Yanks Win 6-4

The New York Yankees took the opener of a weekend series by defeating the Boston Red Sox 6-4 on Friday night.

The Yanks were supported by five long balls on the night. Nick Swisher was the star, hitting two of them. Also homering in the game were Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Derek Jeter. Jeter's home run was the 250th of his career. Jeter and Willie Mays are the the only players to record at least 3,000 hits, 250 home runs, 300 stolen bases and 1,200 RBIs.

New York also got a fairly strong pitching performance from Phil Hughes. The pitcher went seven innings and while he gave up four [unearned] runs, he allowed only four hits and surrendered a single walk. Hughes' own third-inning error led to Boston's only runs, three of which came on a Dustin Pedroia home run. The bullpen of David Robertson and Rafael Soriano closed the door on Boston, keeping them scoreless the rest of the way.

Yankees Vs. Red Sox: Robinson Cano Returns, Mark Teixeira Still Out Of New York Lineup

Entering its three-game series against the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees lineup will get a boost but is still missing a big bat. On Friday, second baseman Robinson Cano will make his return to the batting order, however, first baseman Mark Teixeira wont.

The announcement came from Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who explained before Game 1 of the series why Teixeria is still out with a inflammation in his left wrist.

"He’s sore again. It’s something he’s been battling since he hurt it the first time. It got to a point where we’re going to have to give him some time off again. I don’t think that it’s a long-term problem, but we’ve just got to get through this. ... I’ve been managing it. There are a lot of things that go on in there that people don’t always know. There’s constant conversation with a lot of our players how they’re feeling today."

Meanwhile, the stiff neck that has left Cano out of the lineup for the past few days will not keep him out Friday. Cano will hit third in the Yankees lineup.
