Mets Activate Johan Santana From DL, Designate Garrett Olson

Stay connected for news and updates

Johan Santana was activated from the disabled list by the New York Mets on Saturday, the team announced via Twitter. In a corresponding move, New York designated lefty Garrett Olson for assignment. Santana has been on the DL since July 20 after suffering a right ankle sprain.

Santana will make the start for Game 2 against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. The Mets are looking to let him go 90 pitches during the game. Manager Terry Collins said that Santana's fastball hit 90 miles per hour during a three-inning rehab stint in Brooklyn last Sunday.

Santana is 6-7 this season with a 3.98 ERA. The Mets are hoping he can help reverse the team's slide since the All-Star Break. New York enters Saturday's game having lost four of its last five games.
