The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays, 10-7, on Sunday at the Rogers Centre. The Yankees took two games out of the three-game set.
After an RBI single in the first inning by David Cooper, Toronto plated six runs in the fourth inning to build a 7-0 lead. Casey McGehee hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to put a run across for New York. Rajai Davis drove in three runs on a double in the bottom of the inning. A Derek Jeter solo homer and a two-run shot by Robinson Cano got the Yankees three runs in the sixth inning. RBI doubles by Jeter and Jayson Nix along with a Nick Swisher RBI single in the seventh inning added three more runs, but 10-7 was as close as the Yankees would get.
Phil Hughes (11-10, 4.44 ERA) started for the Yankees but was chased after four innings, giving up nine hits, seven earned runs and a walk. Ryota Igarashi gave up the other three earned runs for the Yankees on three hits in two innings of work. J.A. Happ (1-1, 6.35 ERA) got the win for the Blue Jays, giving up six hits and four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Casey Janssen got a save for Toronto for pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Yankees (67-47) will start their next series against the Texas Rangers (66-46) at Yankee Stadium on Aug 13.

The Yankees look to complete the series sweep against the Blue Jays on Sunday, with a chance to win their fifth straight game. It may be hard to believe, but this would be the Yankees' first three-game sweep at Rogers Centre in more than nine years.
Phil Hughes (11-9, 4.10 ERA) will handle the starting pitching duties, while J.A. Happ (7-10, 4.98) takes the mound for the Bluebirds. Toronto seems to be in disarray right now, as losers of five straight, batting .168 and scoring two runs a game in that period.

With CC Sabathia headed to the disabled list, the New York Yankees have reportedly signed Derek Lowe to help shore up the pitching staff. Lowe will pitch out of the bullpen, but will not join the team until Monday. According to sources, David Phelps will take over Sabathia's next scheduled start.
Sources: Phelps starts Monday. Lowe expected to be in the bullpen by Monday

The Yankees reportedly believe that Lowe can be an effective stopgap pitching from pen. He is 8-10 this season with a 5.52 ERA.
Meanwhile, the hope is that Phelps is ready for a starting role. He has certainly thrived as a reliever. Phelps has a 2.42 ERA in 52 innings pitched this season, and has pitched 5 1/3 perfect innings since the All-Star Break.

The New York Yankees won a fourth straight game Saturday defeating the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-2, in Game 2 of the three-game series at the Rogers Centre. Ivan Nova (11-6, 4.70 ERA) snapped a five-start winless streak. He gave up just five hits and a walk for two earned runs, while striking out 10 batters.
The Yankees assumed control the game with a four-run fourth inning. Jayson Nix drove in Mark Teixeira with a single to left. On the next at-bat, Casey McGehee hit a three-run home run to give New York a 4-0 lead.
The Yankees score their last run off a Derek Jeter ground-rule double scoring McGehee in the sixth inning. Jays' starter Aaron Laffey (3-3, 4.72 ERA) walked Nick Swisher on the next at-bat, then left the mound after 5 2/3 innings. He gave up five earned runs off seven hits and four walks while striking out two.
Toronto scored off a Edwin Encarnacion singles in the fifth and eighth innings. Nova was relieved by David Robertson after Encarnacion's second single to finish out the inning. Neither Robertson nor Rafael Soriano, who earned his 28th save of the season, gave up another hit over the final two innings.
Game 3 of the series is set for Sunday at 1:07 p.m. ET. Phil Hughes (11-9, 4.10 ERA) will take on the Blue Jays' J.A. Happ (0-1, 6.35) on the mound.

The New York Yankees (66-46) will take on the Toronto Blue Jays (53-59) Saturday afternoon in Toronto (1:07 p.m. ET, YES), looking to extend their current run of three consecutive victories. New York posted a 10-4 win on Friday behind Ichiro Suzuki's 5 RBI night.
Ivan Nova (10-6 4.81 ERA) will take the hill for New York. Nova is coming off two straight losses, and does not have a winning decision since a July 8 game against the Boston Red Sox. He'll be facing off against, Aaron Laffey (3-2 4.39 ERA), who pitched briefly for New York in the last two months of the 2011 season. The Yankees should be able to give him plenty of support against Laffey. The Toronto left hander has only faced New York once, going 7.2 innings while giving up 10 runs on five hits.
