NBA Free Agency Rumors 2012: New York Knicks Want Marcus Camby, Prefer Not To Use Mini Mid-Level

The New York Knicks are interested in acquiring free-agent center Marcus Camby but would prefer not to use their mini mid-level exception to do so, according to a report from the New York Post.

Marc Berman reports that New York would rather pull off a sign-and-trade to bring Camby to the Big Apple. Another scenario would have the Knicks split the mini mid-level between Camby and Argentinian point guard Pablo Prigioni, who would likely require an offer of less than $1 million.

Camby, 38, reportedly wants more than the veteran's minimum, which would pay him $1.4 million in the coming season. He is also being chased by the Heat, with whom he is scheduled to visit on Saturday. The Heat cannot offer more than the veteran's minimum unless they pull off a sign-and-trade, because they have already agreed to give their mini mid-level exception to Ray Allen.

If he came to the Knicks Camby would back up Tyson Chandler at center, providing the Knicks an upgrade Jared Jeffries. who is limited offensively and has had knee issues the past two seasons.
