2012 London Olympics: Monday Preview Of Events, Medal Count

The 2012 London Olympics have been terrific thus far, and they're just getting started. On Monday, the United States and the rest of the countries ready themselves for the first full week of competition.

Early on, the Americans are second in the medal count only to China by a margin of 12 to 11. The U.S. hasn't had many slip-ups to date and looks promising going forward to take home much more hardware in a litany of events.

On Monday, the following events will produce a gold medalist:

  • Men's 10m synchronized platform (diving)
  • Women's individual epee (fencing)
  • Men's team final (gymnastics)
  • Women's 57 kg (judo)
  • Women's 73 kg (judo)
  • Women's 10m air pistol/women's skeet final
  • Men's 200m freestyle (swimming)
  • Men's 100m backstroke (swimming)
  • Women's 100m backstroke (swimming)
  • Women's 100m breaststroke (swimming)
  • Women's 58 kg (weightlifting)
  • Men's 62 kg (weightlifting)

The big local headliner is Canandaigua native Ryan Lochte. The Olympic star will go for gold once more in the Men's 200-meter backstroke.

Teaneck, N.J. native Maya Lawrence will be taking on the favored Mara Navarria of Italy in the Women's Individual Epee of fencing on Monday in the round of 32.
