The New York Yankees (60-39) opened their series against the Boston Red Sox (49-51) with a 10-3 victory Friday night, improving their season record against their AL East rivals to 7-1. They look to continue that success Saturday as CC Sabathia (10-3 3.30 ERA) takes the mound, facing Jon Lester (5-8 5.46 ERA) for Boston.
Facing Boston has meant little but good times for the Yankees in 2012. They've scored 59 runs while winning six of seven, including 10 or more runs in three games. Curtis Granderson had a grand slam in Friday's victory and is 10-25 against Boston, and Russell Martin and Raul Ibanez both had home runs. They have to like their chances facing Lester, who allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings versus New York on July 8. The Boston starter has lost three in a row, including giving up 11 runs in a 15-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays last Sunday. The Yankees look to make it four running on Saturday afternoon.
