Mets-Braves Final Score: Atlanta Tops New York 7-5 In Game 1

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves by a final score of 7-5 Friday night, losing Game 1 of the three game series. The offense was active, but they were unable to make up for the Mets pitching.

Starting pitcher Chris Young was pulled after only three innings and gave up six hits and five runs. Miguel Batista took the mound in relief and had things under control for one inning, but he was pulled after walking the bases loaded in the fourth. Josh Edgin was next, making his MLB debut. He bailed out Batista, getting two strikeouts to end the inning. That luck didn't last as Chipper Jones took Edgin deep in the sixth with a solo home run, and the rookie left the game after giving up a double to Freddie Freeman. Freeman then scored on a single by Dan Uggla to give the Braves a 7-4 lead. The Mets managed one more run in the top of the eighth inning but would come no closer.

Scott Hairston, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Ruben Tejada and Andres Torres all had RBI for the Mets, with Nieuwenhuis picking up a pair.

The Mets drop to 46-41 with the loss, as well as falling to 1.5 games behind Atlanta in the Wild Card race. Game 2 is is Saturday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
