The New York Mets begin the second half of the season as they travel to the Peach to start a three-game series (7:35 p.m. ET, SNY) against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets enter Friday's action at 46-40, just four and a half games behind the NL East leading Washington Nationals and only a half a game out of the final Wild Card place which is held by the Braves.
Chris Young (2-2, 3.41 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets on Friday night, while Tim Hudson (7-4, 3.56 ERA) toes the rubber for the Braves.
The Mets were one of the biggest surprises in the first half of the season, and they'll have to keep pace with the surging Braves, who won their last four games heading to the All-Star break. The Mets will also have to move on now that starter Dillon Gee is expected to miss the rest of the season after having surgery to remove a blot clot in his throwing shoulder.
