Starting pitching was the key to New York Mets first-half success. However, the starting rotation got some scary news about one of its 2012 standouts on Tuesday. According to ESPNNewYork.com and sources inside the Mets organization, pitcher Dillon Gee was hospitalized Monday.

A teammate said the issue was believed to be blood-related in Gee's shoulder. Another member of the organization said Gee was admitted Monday and underwent an MRI, but it was not precisely clear at that point the issue.

The Star-Ledger's Andy McCullough is saying he spoke to Mets' manager Terry Collins, who said Gee experienced numbness in his fingers and he was slated to get an angiogram during the All-Star break.

This season, Gee has compiled a 6-7 record with 4.10 ERA and an impressive 1.25 WHIP. Gee was slated to be the starter in the Mets series opener against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
