June 21, 2012; Minneapolis, MN, USA: New York guard Cappie Pondexter. Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

Cappie Pondexter scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Essence Carson had 22 points Saturday to lead the New York Liberty (5-9) to a 77-59 victory over the Seattle Storm (6-8) in WNBA action. The 59 points was a season low for Seattle. The game was played at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

“Our defense was good. We got 12 steals which is important for our defense because that gives us offensive opportunities in the open floor where you take advantage of the quickness of Cappie (Pondexter) and Essence (Carson) and trail shooters like Leilani (Mitchell) and Nicole (Powell)," said Liberty coach John Whisenant. "It was a nice win against a team that is on a roll, they are a good team. I’m sure they’ll be in the playoffs and be a contender.”

Kia Vaughn of the Liberty left the game with a concussion early in the second quarter.
