Stay connected for news and updates

Kris Joseph, formerly of Syracuse University, was selected 51st overall by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft on Thursday night. Joseph, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward, averaged 13.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Orange last season. He will join former Syracuse teammate Fab Melo, selected 22nd overall in the first round by Boston.

At one time the 23-year-old senior was considered a possible first-round pick. There are apparently, though, questions about his age and consistency.

NBA.com says Joseph has the "size and explosiveness needed to play at the next level." From his NBA.com scouting profile, here are his strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:

  • Great athlete
  • Explosive finisher
  • Well-rounded game
  • Improved his 3-point shooting

Weaknesses:

  • Needs to be consistently aggressive
  • Not a great rebounder

SI.com said:

"Joseph showed flashes during the season of why some scouts felt he had first-round potential, but those projections have since faded."
