2012 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Select Shea McClellin At No. 19

Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Bears used the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft to select Shea McClellin, a defensive end/linebacker from Boise State. McClellin was a somewhat surprising selection as he was expected to be a late-first to early-second round selection.

In picking McClellin to bookend with standout defensive end Julius Peppers the Bears bypassed Whitney Mercilus of Illinois and Chandler Jones of Syracuse, both players who most analysts expected to go higher in the draft than McClellin.

Impact On The New York Giants

None, really, except that this pick follows the Giants format of building a defense with multiple pass-rushing defensive ends.
