New York Mets fans with dreams of a 162-0 season will have to settle for aspiring to 161-1, as the Washington Nationals defeated New York 6-2 on Tuesday night to hand the Mets their first loss of the season.

Ross Detweiler outdueled Dillon Gee, posting five shutout innings and earning his first win of the young season.

Gee last slightly longer, managing five and a third innings of work, but allowed four runs on eight hits.

Ronny Cedeno was the bright spot for the Mets offense, collecting three hits in his first four at-bats of the season. He started in place of David Wright, who was forced to miss the game with a jammed finger.

The two teams will finish off their three game set on Wednesday afternoon, when Johan Santana faces off against sensational 23-year old Stephen Strasburg.
