The 2012 NCAA Hockey Tournament begins Friday, with half of the 16 teams in action, including the tourney's second and third overall seeds, Michigan and Union. The number one seed overall, Boston College, won't play until Saturday.
Union went 24-7-7 overall in the regular season and 14-4-4 in the ECAC. This represents the second tournament appearance in school history for the Dutchmen, and second consecutive. Their center, Kelly Zajac, was named the Best Defensive Forward in ECAC Hockey.
Michigan State went 19-15-4 overall and 14-11-3-2 in the CCHA. They'll be making their first tournament appearance since 2008. One year prior to their last tournament appearance in 2008, they won the title, in 2007.
