The Louisville Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2012 NCAA Tournament with a 57-44 win over the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday night. Gorgui Dieng was the game's MVP defensively. He was a general menace in the lane, blocking seven shots and hauling in nine rebounds to go with five points.

Chane Behanan led the Cardinals in scoring with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. He also had eight rebounds in a solid all around effort.

Brandon Wood had a big second half for the Spartans to finish as the team's leading scorer with 14 points. Draymond Green was a monster on the boards, hauling in 16 rebounds. He went just 5-for-16 shooting for 13 points, however. The Cardinals were stifling defensively, holding the Spartans to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field.
