March Madness 2012: St. Bonaventure Basketball And Its Path to March Madness

Stay connected for news and updates

After surviving the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies are dancing for the first time since 2000.

Behind Andrew Nicholson, the conference's Player of the Year, St. Bonaventure seized the Atlantic 10's automatic NCAA tournament berth with three consecutive wins. The Bonnies were the conference's No. 4 seed, but ousted No. 3 Xavier 67-56 in the finals behind a monstrous 26 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks from Nicholson.

The March Madness invitation is the culmination of coach Mark Schmidt's rebuilding effort. The coach took over the reins in 2007 after the school had been hit with NCAA sanctions four years earlier for allowing an ineligible transfer to play.
