Kevin Durant earned Most Valuable Player honors during the 2012 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night after scoring 36 points and picking up seven rebounds in a 152-149 Western Conference win. Although he cooled off late, the Oklahoma City Thunder Star was unstoppable for much of the game, going 14-for-25 in 37 minutes on the floor.
At 23 years old, Durant is one of the youngest players to ever win the trophy. He isn't the all-time youngest, however. LeBron James owns that distinction after putting up 29 points and six rebounds at 21 years old during the 2006 All-Star game. James likely would have won his third MVP title if the Eastern Conference had won Sunday. He tied Durant with 36 points on a blistering 6-for-8 display from behind the 3-point line.

The Eastern Conference rallied late to pull within one-point of the Western Conference in the final minute of the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. Ultimately, a 19-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome, however. That, and 36 points on the night from Kevin Durant. Final Score: 152-149, Western Conference All-Stars.
Carmelo Anthony didn't make the highlight reel, but he had a nice night as the sole representative on the court for the New York Knicks. He scored 19 on 7-for-15 shooting and was second on the squad with nine rebounds. He went 0-for-3 from behind the 3-point arc, however, so he didn't quite fully shake off the rust that has plagued his return from a groin injury last week.
Deron Williams was the team's third-leading scorer with 20 points in just 18 minutes on the court. He went for 4-for-7 from long range, but missed a late 3-point attempt that would have given the East the lead on their final shot of the game. The East rebounded the miss, but LeBron James turned the ball over to Blake Griffin on a misguided pass.
Despite the play, James was the best player on the East squad on Sunday night, scoring 36 and picking up seven rebounds and six assists. He also went 6-for-8 from 3-point land, including this pretty crossover and step-back shot:
Durant's 36 led the West, topping Kobe's 27 and Blake Griffin's 22-point efforts. For Nets fans holding out hope in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, you did't see much from the big man tonight. He played 30 minutes, but had just nine points and three assists in addition to his 10 rebounds.

A field of four took center stage in the 2012 NBA Dunk Contest, and Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz won by receiving 29 percent of the more than 3,000,000 fan votes.
Evans defeated Chase Budinger of the Rockets, Paul George of the Pacers and Derrick Williams of the Timberwolves, with each participant having three dunks to impress.
Evans' signature dunk of the evening involved slamming home two balls fetched from feeds from teammate Gordon Hayward, who Evans jumped over in the process (as seen below).
Knicks guard Iman Shumpert was scheduled to participate in the contest -- and was due to receive a hand from Jeremy Lin -- but was forced to withdraw with a left knee injury. That opened the door for Evans, and the second year player from Western Kentucky made the most of his opportunity.
Below you can find many of the dunks from tonight's festivities:
And unfortunately for Williams, it wasn't all good on Saturday night.

Nets guard Anthony Morrow, donning a sweet throwback Drazen Petrovic jersey, wasn't able to advance past the opening round of the NBA's three point contest on Saturday night, which was eventually won by Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Morrow managed a first round score of just 14, and was one of three participants who did not make it to the finals.
Love was joined by Kevin Durant of the Thunder and James Jones of the Heat (who won the competition in 2011) in the final round of shooting.
After each posting a final round score of 16 points, the Kevins had to settle the score with a bonus round, during which Love bested Durant 17-14.

In a field consisting of six of the league's most skilled point guards, Tony Parker of the Spurs shined brighter than the rest in winning the 2012 All Star Skills challenge with a final round time of 32.8 seconds.
Deron Williams, who had previously participated in the event, cruised through the first round of the Skills Challenge, setting a new opening round record with a time of 28.3 seconds.
Joining Parker and Williams in the final round was Boston's Rajon Rondo, who was forced to break (and eventually win) a first round tie with Washington's John Wall.
Williams struggled in the final round, missing several jump shots from the top of the key, and eventually finished with a time of 41.1 seconds, placing him third.

The second night of the NBA's All-Star weekend kicked off with the Haier Shooting Stars competition, featuring four teams representing four different regions: Texas, New York, Orlando and Atlanta.
Current Knick Landry Fields was joined by former Knick Allan Houston and Cappie Pondexter of the WNBA's New York Liberty on Team New York.
Each team was charged with hitting six shots per round, including one from half-court. Team New York and Team Texas advanced to the finals, with New York posting a first-round best score of 38.7 seconds.
Team New York breezed through the first five shots in the final round, before missing on several attempts from half-court to end the competition. Fortunately, Houston swished a half-court attempt to propel Team New York to victory with a final round time of 37.3 seconds.

The field will consist of the Celtics Rajon Rondo, Spurs Tony Parker, Thunder's Russell Westbrook, Cavaliers Kyrie Irving, Wizards John Wall and Nets Deron Williams. Defending champion Stephen Curry of the Warriors is unable to participate because of an injury.
In previous years, the most difficult aspect to the course has proven to be the bounce pass.

Unlike the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest, the 2012 NBA Three-Point Shootout has a little star power in guys like Kevin Durant and Kevin Love. TV Schedule: Coverage of All-Star Saturday Night begins at 8:00 EST on TNT

The 2012 NBA Dunk contest does not have Blake Griffin car jumps, Dwight Howard Superman capes or Iman Shumpert jumping over Jeremy Lin curled up on his couch – which almost happened before Shump was replaced – but they do have ... Paul George, Derrick Williams, Chase Budinger and Jeremy Evans! Of those four guys, only two-maybe-three guys are recognizable to the casual fan.
Start time: All-Star Saturday Night begins at 8:30 EST, but the Dunk Contest will probably begin around 10:15-10:30
TV Schedule: Coverage of All-Star Saturday Night begins at 8:00 EST on TNT
Participants: Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, Derrick Williams of Minnesota T'Wolves, Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz and Chase Budinger of the Houston Rockets.
Betting Odds: (via Sportsbook.com) Paul George +180, Chase Budinger +200, Jeremy Evans +275, Derrick Williams +375

Two New York Knicks players, second-year players Jeremy Lin and Landry Fields, were on the court for the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night, and they were even on the same team, Team Shaq. However, their combined performances were not enough to stop the game's MVP, Cavaliers rookie Kyrie Irving, who scored 34 points, was a perfect eight for eight from three-point range, and led Team Chuck to a 146-133 victory in the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. as part of the NBA's All-Star Weekend.
Lin received the loudest cheers and had an impressive alley-oop to the game's other biggest star, Blake Griffin, but was held to only two points on the night. Fields had a much better game, scoring 16 points for Team Shaq. New Jersey Nets rookie MarShon Brooks also played in the game for Team Chuck. His biggest highlight was an unbelievably terrible failed dunk attempt.

This was just one of two events on the first night of the NBA's All-Star Weekend. There is still a three-point shooting contest, a dunk contest and the actual all-star game itself to watch.

Defense, unlikely. Alley oops, aplenty. Strategy and hustle, doubtful.
The 2012 NBA Rookie-Sophomore Game returns Friday night at 9 p.m for the first time since being renamed the Rising Stars Challenge, and the game is normally more about entertainment than competition.
New rules dictate that the rookie and sophomore classes no longer play against each other, but are now mixed into two teams selected by respective general managers Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal. The New York Knicks will be represented by Landry Fields and Jeremy Lin, both on Team Shaq, and the New Jersey Nets will be represented by MarShon Brooks on Team Chuck.

Linsanity has found its way to the 2012 NBA All-Star weekend.
Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin will "assist" teammate Iman Shumpert when the rookie participates in the dunk contest, according to a report on ESPN. In 2011, Blake Griffin of the Clippers enlisted teammate Baron Davis to help facilitate some of his dunks, and went on to win the contest in front of his home-city crowd at the Staples Center. Shumpert will compete against Paul George of the Pacers, Chase Budinger of the Rockets, and Derrick Williams of the Timberwolves.
The report also states that Lin is expected to be made a part of the Haier Shooting Stars competition scheduled for next Saturday night in Orlando, although Commissioner David Stern has indicated that Lin will not be added to the roster for the Rising Stars game.
With Lin in the starting lineup, New York has won six straight games, during which he has averaged 24.3 points and 9.5 assists per game.
