Both the Stony Brook and Wagner football programs lost in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday.
National Championship dreams for the Stony Brook Seawolves and Wagner Seahawks ended Saturday, as both FCS program lost in the second round of the playoffs.
Stony Brook was eliminated by No. 3 Montana State, which advanced to the quarterfinals where it will play Sam Houston State. The winner of that contest will play either Illinois State or No. 2 Eastern Washington, which knocked off Wagner, in the semifinals.
The other end of the FCS bracket will feature No. 1 North Dakota St. playing Wofford in a quarterfinal showdown in Fargo, N.D. The winner gets either No. 5 Georgia Southern or No. 4 Old Dominion in the semifinals. That quarterfinal game will be played at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Va.
Semifinal games will be played Dec. 14 or 15 and the Championship Game will be held Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas.
Stony Brooks finished its season with a 10-3 overall record, while Wagner was 9-4.
