New York Knicks guard Jason Kidd remains sidelined with a back injury, but hopes to return late in the week against the defending NBA champion Miami Heat.

Kidd revealed that an MRI of his injured back did not show any significant damage and the veteran point guard remains optimistic he will return to the lineup by Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat.

"Hopefully that’s the plan, to get me out there some time next week," Kidd said before the Knicks played the Wizards at the Garden on Friday. "We’re just going to take it day by day and see. Today was a great day working out, so we’ll see how I feel tomorrow."

The Knicks host the Phoenix Suns on Sunday and are at the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday before playing the Heat.
