The Yankees added to their long list of Silver Slugger winners on Thursday.
New York Yankees Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter were named 2012 Silver Slugger award winners as the best hitters in their respective positions, according to Baseball Nation. This is the fifth Silver Slugger for Jeter and the fourth for Cano. New York joins the Tigers as AL teams to have two winners.
At age 38, Jeter bounced back to have his best season at the plate since 2009. The shortstop 316/.362.429 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI. Jeter led the American League in hits with 216.
Cano finished second in the league with 82 extra base hits, and was eighth with 33 home runs. He posted a 313/.379/.550 line and set a career high with a .929 OPS.
The Yankees have had at least one Silver Slugger winner every year since 2000. There have been 40 Yankees to take home Silver Slugger award since it was first given out in 1980. Reggie Jackson and Willie Randolph each were honored that year.
