Rich Barnes-US PRESSWIRE
The Jets made a couple of roster moves Thursday, adding Ricky Sapp to the active roster and Antonio Allen to the practice squad.
The New York Jets announced on Thursday that they signed linebacker Ricky Sapp to the 53-man roster, and they added rookie safety Antonio Allen to the practice squad. The moves should come as little surprise, as coach Rex Ryan had high praises for Sapp early in training camp.
Sapp, originally a fifth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, suffered a high ankle sprain earlier in the season, which caused the Jets to waive him before the season. The linebacker should be used to his roster status constantly changing, as Sapp has been added and waived from the squad numerous times. He signed with the practice squad on Oct. 31, 2011, then the Jets added him to active roster on Dec. 29, 2011. New York then cut Sapp after the final preseason game this season, then added him to the practice squad. The Jets then cut him three days later before re-adding him to the practice squad on Sep. 11.
Allen was the Jets seventh-round pick this season. The Jets cut him on Tuesday after he appeared in three games this season.
