The New York Red Bulls and D.C. United played to a draw in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinal, as the game ended 1-1.

The New York Red Bulls tied the D.C. United, 1-1, Saturday in Game 1 of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference semifinals held at RFK Stadium. The two-game, total-goal series will resume Wednesday at Red Bull Arena.

United had the best scoring opportunities throughout the first half, including a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Chris Pontius attempted the kick after a Connor Lade hand-ball, but failed to capitalize on the scoring opportunity. Pontius telegraphed his shot, allowing goalie Bill Hamid to make an impressive diving save to keep the game scoreless.

The first goal of the game came in the 61th minute, with Red Bull defender Roy Miller knocking in an own-goal. The ball was crossed in from the side, and Miller attempted to clear the ball behind the goal. The defender was feeling the pressure from Nick DeLeon, and accidentally sent the ball into the back of the net.

United ended up returning the favor in the 65th minute with an own-goal of their own. Thierry Henry sent a corner across the box, and the ball bounced toward Hamid. Hamid had the ball in his hands, but fell backwards, carrying the ball over the line to tie the game.

Andy Najar made a huge mistake in the 70th minute, picking up a red card. Najar was going to be given a yellow card, but disagreed with the call and threw the ball toward the referee, prompting the red card. The 19 year-old will be unavailable for the second leg of the series.

The second game of the series will take place in New York at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesday, November 7th.
