2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Red Bulls vs. DC United preview

Drew Hallowell

D.C. United hosts the first game of a home-and-home Eastern Conference semifinals series Saturday night.

The New York Red Bulls, are in Washington, D.C., Saturday to play the first game of the two-game Eastern Conference semifinals against D.C. United. The Red Bulls' stadium is in Harrison, N.J., and was in the path of Hurricane Sandy. As a result, they find themselves dealing with its aftermath, like so many others in the region.

D.C. United hasn't lost a match since mid-September, when their best player, Dwayne De Rosario, went down with a knee injury. In that time, they climbed from out of the playoffs to No. 3 in the standings, ahead of the Red Bulls, and appear to be one of the more dangerous teams in the league at just the right time.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Sandy has given the Red Bulls the unique opportunity of being the lower seed but playing the second game of the two-game series at home, usually considered to be home-field advantage. Obviously, the team would want that advantage to come under different circumstances, but they'll work with what they've got.

Game Date/Time: Saturday, Nov. 3, 8 p.m. ET

Location: Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, Washington, D.C.

TV: NBC Sports Network
