Looking ahead to this Sunday's Week 5 NFL game between the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns

The New York Giants host the Cleveland Browns this week at MetLife Stadium (1 p.m. ET, CBS). At 2-2, the defending Super Bowl champion Giants have one of the most brutal schedules in the NFL. With the Browns at 0-4 heading into this weekend this game could be looked at as a respite from the difficulties of the schedule, especially with a trip across country to face the San Francisco 49ers looming the following week.

The Giants open the week as a 13-point favorite. Giants' fans know, however, that nothing comes easy for Big Blue. That the Giants have a habit of struggling to beat even the most ordinary of NFL teams, which is what the Browns appear to be.

STATE OF THE GIANTS

With their 2-2 record the Giants are in a log jam with the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins behind the 3-1 Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. The Giants, however, have lost both of their division games.

The Giants will likely head into the game without safety Kenny Phillips, who sprained an MCL against the Eagles. The status of wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (foot/knee) is also up in the air.

STATE OF THE BROWNS

The Browns lost to the Eagles by a point and the Ravens by a touchdown. with rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden Cleveland is averaging just 18.2 points and has scored more than 16 points only once.

Much more on the game as the week unfolds.

QUOTABLE

Hey, we're 2-2 right now. It's not the ideal situation, but you could be a lot worse. Philadelphia is 3-1, we're not far out. There's a lot of football to be played. We've still got four more divisional games. It's a lot of football left and we've got to worry about Cleveland and get back to winning and there's no point in getting down now. Everybody knows we're going to see Philadelphia again the last game of the regular season. I have a feeling that's going to be a big game for us.

-- Giants' quarterback Eli Manning on being 0-2 in the division
