Big East basketball media day: Coaches' poll, All-Big East preseason teams and news

The Big East Conference held its annual media day Wednesday, and released its preseason coaches' poll and All-Big East preseason teams.

NEW YORK -- The men's college basketball season officially tipped off for the Big East Conference Wednesday as the league hosted its annual media day at the New York Athletic Club located on the south end of Central Park. In an elaborate setting coaches and players from all 15 programs answered questions from media members, who wanted to know the ins-and-outs of the upcoming season.

However, before the hoopla began the conference took care of some of its annual tasks releasing its 2012-13 Preseason Coaches' Poll, Preseason Player of the Year, Preseason Rookie of the Year and Preseason All-Big East Teams.

  • Big East commissioner Mike Aresco announced in his opening remarks that the league and Madison Square Garden agreed to a multiyear extension of their contract that will keep the Big East Tournament at the "World Most Famous Arena," for the foreseeable future. The length of the extension was not given, but Aresco noted its for a long time.
  • Paul Brazeau was named Senior Associate Commissioner of Men's Basketball at the Big East Conference. At the Big East, Brazeau will be the lead administrator and contact for men's basketball. He will represent the conference in overall administration, management and control of the men's basketball programs.
