Jan 10, 2012 - The reminders are all around the New York Giants this week. The guys with the microphones and pads keep asking about it. They way the Giants have played recently, getting hot at the end of a so-so regular season is reminiscent. The fact that they are heading to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers will make those who played on the Super-Bowl winning team of four years ago think about it.
Reminders of what? Reminders, of course, of the Giants going to a frozen Lambeau in January of 2008 and outlasting Brett Favre and the Packers to win the NFC Championship Game in overtime, 23-20. Reminders that this playoff experience is eerily similar to the one they took to the Super Bowl the last time.

The Giants, though, don't want to revel in history. They want to make new history.
"There will be some reference to ‘07 and going through there, but to be honest with you, I want them to understand that this is the 2011-12 New York Giants," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "This team is trying to carve out their own identity and maybe do something historically for this team."
There are 16 Giants on the current roster who were members of the team that defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42, and were part of the team that KO's the Packers before that.
One of them is running back Brandon Jacobs.
"I don't compare '07 with this team," Jacobs said. "Green Bay is a very good football team, we all know that. They've got a great quarterback, they've got great wide receivers, they've got a great front seven that plays good, they've got good corners that play good on the outside and it's going to be a dogfight."
That is what you will hear from the Giants all week. The stroll down memory lane is nice for Giants fans, but it's time to make some new memories.
