The West Virginia Mountaineers kept their winning streak over Marshall University intact Sunday with a 34-13 victory. Quarterback Geno Smith was stellar, throwing for 235 yards with a touchdown on 26-of-35 passing. Meanwhile, the WVU running attack (42 yards on 26 carries) was almost non-existent. However, first-year head coach Dana Holgorsen seemed pleased with the offense.
Opponent preview: Last Saturday, the Norfolk State Spartans defeated Virginia St., 37-3. Senior quarterback Chris Walley tossed for 255 yards and two TDs in the season-opening victory. Norfolk State's spread offense piled up 438 total yards. This season, the Spartans return eight players in their 3-4 defense.
Point spread: WVU is a 41-point favorite.
TV schedule: Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN Gameplan/ESPN3.com
Final thought: WVU should cruise to another victory Saturday. What Mountaineers fans want to see is a dominating performance that doesn't feature rain, thunder or lightning.
