The New York Yankees have drawn the playoff assignment no American League team really wanted. The Yankees will face Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series. Play will begin Friday (8:37 p.m. ET/TBS) at Yankee Stadium. Verlander, the best pitcher in the major leagues this season with a 24-5 record, will oppose Yankee ace CC Sabathia (19-8).
The Yankees won the American League East with a record of 97-65. The Tigers won the American League Central with a 95-67 record, a full 15 games ahead of second-place Cleveland.
