Belmont Stakes Post Positions: Animal Kingdom Gets No. 9, Shackleford Gets No. 12

The post positions for Saturday’s 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes were drawn Wednesday morning, with Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford drawing the extreme outside 12th position and Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom got the ninth post position.

Shackleford trainer Dale Motion said “we expect to be on the lead.” The Belmont, the final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, is a 11/2-mile race, the longest of the Triple Crown events.
