No rest for the New York Yankees this week. After opening the season by taking two of three from the Detroit Tigers, the Yankees host the Minnesota Twins for four games beginning tonight After that the Yankees had to Boston tor three games Friday, Saturday and Sunday against the arch-rival Boston Red Sox.
What, is anything, can you learn from the Yankees' first three games? Well, a few things actually.
- Mark Teixeira seems to have solved his April woes. A career .237 hitter in April (.136 a year ago) he already has three home runs and seven RBI.
- Alex Rodriguez is swinging the bat very well. He has a home run, two booming doubles and was robbed of at least a double on a leaping catch at the left field wall Sunday.
- Russell Martin might turn into a great free-agent acquisition. He looks healthy and focused, and if both of those things stay in place he could have a very good season.
- We expected this, but when the Yankees carry a lead past the fifth inning they will be very, very difficult to beat with David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain, Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera coming out of the bullpen.
