Former New York Giants star Lawrence Taylor was sentenced today to six years probation and will have to register as a sex offender. Taylor, 52, pled guilty in January to sexual misconduct and having sex with an underage prostitute.
Taylor's plea came after he had sex with a 16-year-old prostitute, claiming to have believed that she was 19. He was originally charged with third-degree rape, patronizing a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child.
Taylor will register as a sex offender, but the judge postponed until April 12 a hearing on what level sex offender Taylor will register as. There are three levels -- low, moderate and high risk.
New York Giants fans knew this day coming for Taylor, one of the greatest players in NFL history. Still it is sad to think of the great LT like this. Taylor's wild off-the-football field life and troubles with drugs and the law have always beenb almost as much of a story as his tremendous on-field exploits.
At some point, though, you always hoped Taylor would grow up. Apparently, that hasn't happened yet.
