New Jersey Devils' defenseman Anton Volchenkov was suspended for three games by the NHL today.

The league suspended Volchenkov for elbowing Carolina Hurricanes' center Zach Boychuk in the head. The defenseman received a minor for elbowing - one of three minor penalties he took last night.

New Jersey learned of the suspension after Volchenkov's supplemental discipline hearing this morning.

Volchenkov practiced with the team today, but will miss upcoming games against the Toronto Maple Leafs (Thursday), San Jose Sharks (Friday) and Carolina (Wednesday).
