Mets Lose Out to Marlins as Reyes Agrees to Six-Year Contract

Stay connected for news and updates

Jose Reyes has agreed to a six- year $106-million dollar deal with the Florida Marlins pending a physical. This is, perhaps, less money than Reyes was looking for as a Free Agent, but still a sizeable enough sum to pursuade him to leave the New York Mets. Reyes batted .337 last year for the Mets with 7 home runs, 101 runs scored, and 39 stolen bases. The Marlins now have two of the best short-stops in the game with Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes. What they do with Ramriez remains to be seen.

The Mets now have to officially figure out how to move on without their best player, though a return to the Mets has always been considered a longshot. General Manager Sandy Alderson is reportedly conducting a press conference this evening at the Winter Meetings. We will have more later on if Alderson says anything noteworthy.
