Andruw Jones is the latest 2011 member of the New York Yankees to become a member of the 2012 Yankees. The team re-signed the veteran outfielder/designated hitter on Friday.
Nothing wrong with signing Jones, 34. He is a good right-handed bat off the bench coming off a season in which he hit .247 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI in just 190 at-bats.
Question is, though, what is going on with the Yankees? Rather than shuffle their roster and be players in the free-agent market the Yankees have spent the winter re-signing their own players. Jones, Nick Swisher and Freddy Garcia have all been brought back.
The Yankees could still make a splash with a big offer to Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, but there are mixed reports on whether the newly-frugal Bronx Bombers will do that.
It seems like a new world with the Yankees. One that will take some getting used to.
