Seton Hall-Dayton Final Score: Pirates Edge Flyers 69-64

The red hot Seton Hall pirates sailed their ship into Dayton for a date with the Flyers on Wednesday night. Senior Herb Pope led the Pirates to their 11th victory of the season, beating Dayton by a final score of 69-64.

Pope was one of four Seton Hall players to score in double figures. Pope had 14 points, the same as teammate Jordan Theodore. Patrick Auda led the Pirates with 18 points. St. John's Amir Garrett Cleared To Play, Might Be In Uniform Wednesday

With all the bad luck surrounding the St. John's University men's basketball program recently Red Storm fans got a break Tuesday, as blue-chip forward, freshman Amir Garrett, was cleared to play by the NCAA and could be in uniform Wednesday night against Texas-Pan American (7 p.m. on ESPN3).

"The Red Storm have been waiting for the news for some time," wrote Pico Dulce of SB Nation's St. John's blog Rumble In The Garden Wednesday.

Garrett had been one of three Steve Lavin's blue-chip recruits for the Class of 2011-12, which entered the season ranked third overall, that was on the fence about coming to St. John's (5-5) after just before the season the NCAA ruled that the trio were academically ineligible.

During his time off, Garrett enrolled at prep school, and wavered over his options to either play baseball -- the Cinncinnati Reds drafted him in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft and offered him a $1-million signing bonus -- or look at other schools.

In the end, with the help from his father, Darrow, Garrett choice to attend St. John's.

"I'm happy he's now at St. John's and can play basketball," Garrett's father told's Jeff Goldman Tuesday.

Garrett's arrival comes just in time, as last Saturday the Red Storm had just six players in uniform during their 56-50 victory over Fordham University. St. John's roster was cut short after freshman guard Nurideen Lindsey decided to transfer just a few weeks ago.

Seton Hall At Dayton Preview: Pirates Go For Seventh Straight Win

The Seton Hall Pirates are already 9-1 on the season, but will be trying for something different on Wednesday night. They will travel to Ohio to take on the Dayton Flyers in their first road game of the year. The Flyers hold an overall record of 8-3 and are 5-1 at home.

The PIrates have won six straight games, with their most recent victory coming Sunday, an 80-77 overtime victory over the Mercer Bears. They'll be hoping to make it lucky number seven against Dayton. The Pirates have a tough task ahead of them on December 28 as they will be visiting the No. 1-ranked Syracuse Orange.

They'll have to get past Dayton first, which will be no easy feat in itself. The Flyers have won three in a row, including a decisive win over the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Wednesday's game will get underway at 7 Pp.m. ET at University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, OH. You can listen to the game on 77WABC AM with announcers Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin, or on WSOU 89.5 FM with Jason Guerette and Chris Shedlock. You can also check out for information about live streaming video of the game.
