New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is making bold predictions again, telling Mike Lupica of the New York Daily News "If we get in [the playoffs] look out." Across the Internet there are any number of posts like this one trying to make a big deal out of Ryan's remarks.
↵Thing is, after this much time would you expect anything less from Ryan than brash optimism about his team? Here is a little more of what Ryan said to Lupica.
↵↵↵"We're not in the playoffs yet. But if we get in the playoffs, they're gonna be talking about four teams. I mean, if we get in, how can you not talk about us?
↵"We can beat all those teams [ahead of us]."
↵
I'm not a big Ryan fan, but I can't really find much to complain about in that statement. Off past history, which has seen the Jets get to the AFC Championship Game as a wild-card team two straight seasons, why shouldn't Ryan think the Jets can do it again.
↵As one of five 7-5 teams the Jets have a lot of work to do to make the playoffs again. If they get there, though, Ryan has every right to feel like his team would be a dangerous opponent. That history is on his side.
