Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai Becomes Fastest Man To Run NYC Marathon

Stay connected for news and updates

Geoffrey Mutai is the fastest man to ever run the New York City Marathon. The Kenyan broke the course record by more than two minutes with a time of 2:05:07 just seven months after setting an unofficial world record with his win of the Boston Marathon in 2:03:02.

Geoffrey Mutai was followed by countryman Emmanuel Mutai (no relation), who finished at 2:06:28 for his second straight second-place finish at the NYC Marathon. Emmanuel Mutai also broke the previous course record of 2:07:43, set by Ethiopian Tesfaye Jifar in 2001. Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia finished third with a time of 2:07:12.

Geoffrey Mutai became just the fourth man to win the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon in the same year and the first to set course records in both races.
