The New York Yankees re-signed general manager Brian Cashman for the next three years.

A day after signing ace CC Sabathia to a one-year extension, the New York Yankees announced Tuesday they have also re-signed general manager Brian Cashman to a three-year contract to be the team's senior vice president and general manager. Cashman's previous three-year deal, thought to be worth about $6 million, expired after this past season.

The news does not come as a surprise, as Cashman has been working in his role since the team was bounced from the American League Division Series in early October and played a part in the negotiations that led to Sabathia's extension.

The 44-year-old Cashman came to the Yankees organization as an intern when he was 19 years old and worked his way up the ladder to earn the general manager job in 1998. In the 14 seasons since, the Yankees have won four World Series, 11 American League East division titles and qualified for the playoffs every year but 2008. Cashman is the third-longest tenured general manager in the major leagues.
