Most of SB Nation New York college hoops fans were most likely watching a long amount of football on Saturday. This means you missed your fair share of what went on in the Big East Conference. No worries though, we've compiled a brief roundup to get you caught up.
Senior center Casey McGhee tied a collegiate-best with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help the No. 5-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers to an easy, 74-53, victory over the Seton Hall Pirates. The Panthers (17-1, 5-0) will host the No. 4 Syracuse Orange on ESPN's Big Monday showdown (7:30 p.m.) at the Petersen Events Center. Pittsburgh has won 19-straight games at home.
Seton Hall forward Herb Pope finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. However, in the end, Pitt out rebounded the Pirates 45-26. SHU has lost all four of its games to ranked opponents this season.
Walker, Young Guns Help Huskies Roll
Junior guard Kemba Walker netted a game-best 31 points to aid the No. 9 Connecticut Huskies past the DePaul Blue Demons, 82-62. UConn is currently on a three-game conference winning streak. Meanwhile, DePaul is 0-5 in Big East play. Freshman forward Cleveland Melvin had a team-best 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Kuric's Last-Second Lay Up Helps Louisville Edge Marquette
The game-winner was setup by senior guard Preston Knowles, who saw Kuric all alone underneath the basket. Kuric made the lay in and helped the Cards (14-3, 3-1), who used a 24-5 run at the end of the game, dodge the upset. Junior guard Darius Johnson-Odom scored a team-best 19 points for Marquette (12-6, 3-2), which led 65-47 with under six minutes to play.
'Nova Uses 19-0 Run To Beat Terps
Senior guard Corey Fisher scored eight of his 17 points during a 19-0 run, which helped the No. 7 Villanova Wildcats beat non-conference opponent the Maryland Terps, 74-66. The Wildcats (16-1, 4-0), who trailed by 12 midway through the second half, earned their 11 straight victories. The Terps are 11-6 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Sophomore forward Jordan Williams compiled a game-best 25 points and 14 rebounds. Williams has 11 straight double-double and is now one double-double shy of the school record, which was set by Len Elmore (1973-'74).
