Amare Stoudemire turns down Phoenix

The Phoenix Suns tried to keep their lifer power forward on the cheap. But according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic, Amare Stoudmire turned down their five-year, $96 million dollar offer, which was only fully guaranteed for three years. They had the option to offer Stoudemire the full max, but opted not to. Their signing of Hakim Warrick today – while not an attempt to replace Stoudemire by any means – shows the team has other plans for its power forward slot.
This has huge implications, of course, for the New York Knicks, who have been targeting Stoudemire since he officially opted out of his contract earlier this week. They spoke with the free agent via phone shortly after midnight on July 1st, and have a meeting planned with him in New York for Monday.
