Mets' Daniel Murphy out for season

Well, technically, he wasn't so much the Mets' Daniel Murphy as the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons' Daniel Murphy, but regardless, he tore his MCL and is done for the year

The injury occurred when Syracuse's Leonard Davis plowed into Murphy with a slide.

"I've played 11 years professionally and it's one of the dirtiest slides I've ever seen," Buffalo utility man Andy Green told The Buffalo News.

Murphy had sprained the same MCL in Spring Training, costing him a shot at the starting first baseman gig, where Ike Davis has filled in serviceably for the Mets. But the team was looking to make Murphy useful as a second baseman - a position the Mets will need to figure out with Luis Castillo potentially hitting the DL with issues in his feet.
