Luis Castillo Moved To The Disabled List

From Tom Singer of MLB.com:

Second baseman Luis Castillo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right heel on Friday by the Mets.

Castillo’s disablement followed an MRI on his sore heel Thursday at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, which was negative. He is hitting .241 with a .347 on-base percentage in 44 games with the Mets.

Ruben Tejada was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Report: Mets Designate Gary Matthews Jr. For Assignment

Brad Como of SNY reports the New York Mets have designated veteran outfielder Gary Matthews Jr., who's hitting .190 this season, for assignment. This news comes just over two weeks after Andy Martino reported in the New York Daily News that Mets officials met informally in Atlanta to discuss several personnel topics, including whether Matthews belonged.

Como's report also says the team has called-up a catcher, Omir Santos from the Mets' AAA affiliate in Buffalo, to replace Matthews' spot on the roster. Eric Simon of Amazin' Avenue, SB Nation's Mets blog, calls it "your classic crap-for-turd swap," but "a net win."
