Sal Alosi Trip Costs Jets $100K

The NFL has fined the New York Jets $100,000 for the sideline tripping incident earlier this season involving Sal Alosi, the team’s strength and conditioning coach. That, of course, is pocket change for an NFL franchise, but the fine is another stain a franchise that has seen a number of unseemly off-the-field incidents this season.

The NFL called Alosi’s trip of Miami’s Nolan Carroll and his subsequent admission that he instructed sideline personnel to line up in such as fashion as to inhibit gunners on the opposing teams “a competitive violation as well as a dangerous tactic.”

The NFL apparently also took into consideration comments by Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff insinuating that the New England Patriots utilize this sideline tactic.

Alosi has been suspended indefinitely by the Jets. I still believe Alosi should have been fired, if for no other reason that the organization needing to make some type of statement that the outside nonsense that has nothing to do with football needs to stop.

Best guess here is that Alosi never works for the Jets again. He will probably quietly find other employment during the off-season and slip out of sight. At least I hope that’s what happens.
