Knicks 98, Raptors 93: New York Opens NBA Season With Victory

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – Amare Stoudemire scored seven of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, as the New York Knicks took down the Toronto Raptors, 98-93, in the season opener for both teams at Air Canada Centre.

Stoudemire, a five-time All-Star, opted out of his contract with the Suns, for whom he had spent his entire eight-year tenure in the league, to join the Knicks in the offseason. He also had 10 rebounds on Wednesday night, but turned the ball over nine times.

Wilson Chandler added 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench for New York, which played its 5,000th regular-season game. Raymond Felton, who spent the first five years of his career with the Bobcats, chipped in with 15 points, six boards and six assists.

Andrea Bargnani had 22 points and six rebounds to pace the Raptors, who lost Chris Bosh and Hedo Turkoglu in the offseason. Bosh signed with Miami and Turkoglu was sent to Phoenix for Leandro Barbosa, who ended with 13 points.

Linas Kleiza of Lithuania had 13 points and five boards for Toronto, which got 16 points and six assists from Jarrett Jack.
